How Do You Clean A Cartridge Pool Filter?

Making sure that your cartridge pool filters are clean is important. if you don't clean and replace them regularly you will find that they will become clogged and start to grow algae on them. Below are steps that you need to take in order to clean your cartridge pool filter.

Step 1: Remove the used filter from the pump. Make sure that you turn the pump off first so that water doesn't come barreling out.

Step 2. Use a hose to spray the filter as soon as your remove it. Don't allow it to dry or the debris will actually set into it and that will make it much more difficult to clean.

Step 3: Put the filter in the sunshine if you can and allow it to dry. This will take a while but make sure it is allowed to dry completely.

Step 4: Once the filter is dry you will be able to remove all the particles that have now dried. Use air to do this or you can simply shake it. You can also use a stiff brush such as a paint brush to remove the particles.

Step 5: Wait until you have a few filters ready for this step. Now you will use a chlorinizer and this will take time. This is why it is not efficient for you to do this with each filter. You need to get a bucket to put them in.

Step 6: Here you will use the bucket but the lid needs to be tight fitting. You will put the solution of 6 parts water and 1 part chlorinator in the bucket. Place the filters you have saved into the bucket and submerge them then put the lid back onto the bucket.

Step 6: You should let the filters soak for at least 1 day but it will really help if you are able to leave them soaking for three or even five days. Soaking the filters kills micro-organisms that might be trapped in and also breaks down organic contaminants.

Step 7: When you are ready you need to take the filters out. You should use a bucket with clean water to rinse them. You should briskly dunk them in the water. When you do this there should be a cloud that appears from the contaminants that are being removed from your filter.

Step 8: Now you are ready to put the filters back into the sunlight. Let them set until that have thoroughly dried. If you see any dirt once they are dry you can again brush them off.

Step 9: When you are done cleaning your filters you should make sure that you reseal your soak bucket. This is so you can reuse it several times. There will be a bit of sediment in the bucket but this should not affect its usability.

Step 10: Your filters are now ready to be reused. You can now use these while you are cleaning other filters that you have used in the process of waiting on these to be cleaned.

These are easy steps that will help you be able to clean your filters instead of disposing of them each and every time that they become dirty. It doesn't take a great deal of time but it can certainly save you some money. Make sure that you follow the steps carefully and soak the filters for up to 5 days in order to get the best results when you clean your filters. Over time you will want to purchase new filters but this will certainly help to cut back on the number that you need.
