Electric pool heater repairs, what is involved?
About Electric Pool Heaters
Electric pool heater are very different from that of your conventional swimming pool heater. Gas heaters and electric heaters function is very distinct ways, and because of this, technicians must approach them quite differently. It should be noted that electronic devices, in some cases, can be more dangerous than that of gas powered devices. The case of an electric spool eater is especially telling because not only does it conduct electricity, but it is also immersed or surrounded in water, making one more susceptible to the odds of perilous dangers. For this reason, if you require a repair to your electric pool heater, then your technician will make sure that he or she has disabled all of the incoming and outgoing sources of electrical currents. This is sepciallyimeprative for safety. They may choose to integrate additional safety measures in order to prevent the likelihood of harm and injury to themselves. For example, they will shut down all electrical sources to the pool and they will do this using the service panel. It is always advised that you call a qualified professional to work with anything of an electrical nature.
How Electric Pool Heaters Work
The general process by which electrical heaters function is pretty standardized in nature. Generally, when a pool heater is met with an electrical current, it inculcates this current using what is referred to as a heating element, and this is responsible for giving rise to heat. In some situations, however, this particular current is compromised, and there are many different causes for this. This special element is what is responsible for creating the heat, and if this is somehow compromised, then no heat will be generated at all. However, the issue does not always originate with the special element. The element, which is conveniently located in the heater assembly housing, works concurrently with other components of the heater. The heating assembly takes in the heat that the element produces, and it projects it into the water in order to warm it up. This assembly is highly important in the water warming process because it contains sensors, such as the thermostat, which helps regulate temperatures.
Primary Causes of Pool Heater Failure
The are many reasons why a heater decides to fail. Every heating failure that occurs within a pool is associated with its own unique symptoms and characteristics. In this case, it just so happens to be that there is no heat at all. When there is no heat being produced at all, then this means the the heating system is faulty in some respect. In order to properly understand the elements of the repair process, it is important to liken the heating element to the filter y of a light bulb. The filament is a coiled wire that helps product light. But over time, if the coil is burned out, it will not produce light. Think of the heating element in this fashion. Once it is burned out, heat cannot be produced.
The technician will troubleshoot the situation, and in some cases, do a series of tests in order to better screen the situation for abnormalities. For instance, the heater element test is a detailed test that entails taking measurements of ohms, which is ideal for electrical devices that have suffered a technical difficulty. In other cases, the technician may simply test the shorts in the system, in places such as the terminals and the sheaths. These tests would also measure in ohms. Doing these tests will play a fundamental role in pinpointing the exact origin of the outage. Once you technician figures out what is generating the heat loss, then he or she can remedy it accordingly and repair the pool, heater.
